At the end of the 19th century, London experienced a series of horrible crimes that would shock the Victorian society of the time. The alleged perpetrator, the infamous Jack The Ripper, who’s killing ground was the slum of Whitechapel and who has never been identified. This is the sinister journey of a serial killer whose sickening and horrific atrocities remain unsolved more than a century later.
MARTHA TABRAM
Killed on Tuesday, August 7, 1888 at 02:30 a.m., her body lay on the landing of a building located in George Yard Buildings. The victim was found an hour later by one Albert Crow, who believed that it was a drunk sleeping on the stairs and was not alarmed. Later, John Reeves, another neighbour in the area, realized that she was a dead woman and gave the alarm.
MARY ANN NICHOLS
First of the victims of Jack The Ripper, the body of this prostitute appeared on Friday, August 31, 1888 in Buck's Row, now Durward Street, very close to Whitechapel Road. The body lay on the ground, in front of a closed door, and was found at 3:45 a.m. by carriage driver Charles Cross, who was on his way to work
MARY JANE KELLY
At the end of the 19th century, Dorset Street was considered the most dangerous street in London. In one of his sinister alleys, Miller's Courtney, the body of this young woman appeared, who would sadly go down in history for being the last known victim of Jack The Ripper. The woman lay on the floor of the ramshackle room of one of the sub-homes in the area.
CATHERINE EDDOWES
That same Sunday, September 30, 1888, it would also be fateful for this woman, whose body was found at 1:45 a.m. in the passage of St. James, south corner of Mitre Square. The police officer who found her, Edward Watkins, said he had just passed there just fifteen minutes earlier without seeing anything strange. At the end of his round, however, this horrific murder had taken place.
ELIZABETH STRIDE
The body of this woman was discovered by Louis Diemschutz at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, 1888, in a courtyard on Berner Street (now Henriques Street). The man barely caught a glimpse of the victim when he was about to park his cart in that yard and had to return with a candle to confirm his finding.
ANNIE CHAPMAN
Her body was discovered by the truck driver John Davis in the backyard of number 29 on Hanbury Street, about 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 1888. Davis lived with his family in the same building where he found the victim whilst going to the latrines he ran into the sinister find.
